A Little Snowflake Day

A Little Snowflake Day

This winter I designed a little snowflake and created some very simple Scandinavian style winter and Christmas signs.  It was super fun to learn how to make a snowflake using graphic design software.  I started out using scissors to create a design, but my paper snowflakes just didn’t cut it….. get it?  ….cut it? 🙂  OK – I’m sorry.  Continue Reading

Dwarf Sunflowers Standing Tall

Dwarf Sunflowers Standing Tall

I’ve never been able to figure out how to keep regular sunflowers from falling to the ground once they bloom.  I think I finally outsmarted gravity this year.  OK – I might be giving myself a bit too much credit claiming I conquered gravity, but I will say that my sunflowers finally stayed upright this year.  Continue Reading

DIY Bamboo Tower for Pole Beans

DIY Bamboo Tower for Pole Beans

Although bamboo makes a great screen, certain varieties of bamboo can be VERY invasive.  My neighbor planted some about 15 years ago so I wouldn’t spend all my leisure time standing at my kitchen window looking into her backyard.  At the time I asked her if she encased it in anything when she planted it right up against our shared fence.  She assured me that they knew what they were doing and that it was in a metal something-or-another and wasn’t going anywhere and … well the rest of what she said wasn’t very nice so I won’t repeat it.Continue Reading

Cyclamen – The Upside Down Flower

Cyclamen – The Upside Down Flower

So I have had this lovely little Cyclamen houseplant since mid-December.  It was a gift from one of my bookkeeping clients and is a new plant for me.  It bloomed throughout December on my kitchen windowsill, but apparently I wasn’t really watching what this little plant was up to.

Valentine’s Day Grapevine Heart

Valentine’s Day Grapevine Heart

I finally stopped working long enough to do something creative…. not that bookkeeping isn’t creative.  Oh- yeah.  Bookkeeping isn’t creative – at least it better not be.  Bookkeeping did end up causing the inspiration for the project I did today though.  One of my bookkeeping clients is a really talented artist and graphic designer.  Last year around Valentine’s Day I went to do bookkeeping for her husband’s company and they had this amazing vine/twig heart hanging on their front door from a big ribbon.  I was impressed, charmed, & inspired.Continue Reading

Yesterday, I took a walk outside. It seems like the rain has come back to Oregon full force, making enjoying the outdoors hard to do. I walked around my yard to see the new changes that fall has been enforcing.Continue Reading

Grape Juicing

Grape Juicing

There are so many grapes this year that I have to admit to being totally overwhelmed by them all.  My tendency is to take on whatever is in front of me which left me rather paralyzed in this situation.  I haven’t had time to even clean my house let alone juice a million grapes which I then would have no place to store.  It wasn’t until I finally realized I needed to give myself permission to just pick a couple bowls so we would have a few liters of Homemade Concord Grape Juice for the holidays that I started to look forward to the harvest.  Continue Reading

The Grapes Smell Awesome & the Strawflowers are Sleepy

The Grapes Smell Awesome & the Strawflowers are Sleepy

It is raining.  Usually not a headline in the Pacific Northwest, but I can tell  it has been a while since we have had a dark and rainy/grey day because the rain actually feels different and new. Continue Reading

September Veggie Garden – the Good, the Bad & the Early

September Veggie Garden – the Good, the Bad & the Early

The Good is that, despite getting my typical late start, I had a veggie garden this year — which for me is a rather enchanting, feel-good thing to do. It was fun to water and watch things grow while eating berries and crushing dill or basil leaves between my fingers for that awesome garden smell. Ultimately I did something I wanted to do for fun and it made summer more memorable.

The Bad would be Continue Reading

My Praying Mantis Survived!

San Fran Day Four

After a great night’s sleep at the Half Moon Bay Inn, Boyd, Isak and I wandered up Main Street until we found a little restaurant with patio seating where we could have some breakfast. My father woke uncharacteristically early and found a Calvary Chapel just off Main Street to visit for their Sunday morning service.Continue Reading

The Beginnings of a Very Cozy Fireplace Video

The Beginnings of a Very Cozy Fireplace Video

Years and years ago (in a time that is now referred to as the “Oldies” by some bogus radio station in our area that plays the 80’s music of my youth and calls it “Oldies”) my husband thought it would be funny to video tape a fire in a fireplace to play on a TV.Continue Reading
