A Hornet Nest in the Woods

A Hornet Nest in the Woods

Last month we went out to the woods for a day. It was beautiful outside so we took a drive just to escape the busyness of town. While hiking around we found a hornet nest. I personally had never seen one before, except in movies. My husband on the other hand is all to familiar with them.Continue Reading

Hells Canyon – Eastern Oregon

Hells Canyon – Eastern Oregon

My husband took a hunting trip last week to Hells Canyon.  Hells Canyon is located in Eastern Oregon by the border of Washington and Idaho.  Although his trip was not long enough by any means, he still had a fantastic time.  Hunting trips for my husband mostly consist of sleeping in, eating good home cooked meals and taking photos to show me the things that he has seen.Continue Reading

Airstream Trailer Vintage Vacation

Airstream Trailer Vintage Vacation

Retro Camping at the Lakedale Resort

While trying to plan an entirely different trip, I stumbled across a glamping and camp ground off the coast of Washington State on San Juan Island that has an Airstream Trailer (camper) that is parked lakeside and restored and can be rented out by the night.  I was so enchanted by the possibility of getting to stay in an Airstream without having to own one that I abandoned my original plans and worked out all the details that would put us on this Pacific Northwest island in the sunny summertime in a glorious restored Airstream.

Lakedale Resort – Friday Harbor, San Juan Island

Stranded on an Island

I planned a Vintage Vacation for our family last summer.  I found a place called Lakedale Resort on San Juan Island that has a restored Airstream trailer we could stay in for a couple of nights.  This Airstream glamping trip inspired Boyd to want to do a vintage photo shoot and bring props and dress me up and all that.Continue Reading

Ride the Ferry to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island

Ride the Ferry to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island

If you are anywhere near Seattle, WA in the beautiful Pacific Northwest you should plan to drive a bit further North to Anacortes and take (at minimum) a day trip to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.  The Anacortes ferry departure point is about 80 miles north of Seattle.  We live about 5 hours away, so we opted to say in Anacortes for the night so we could get on the ferry in the morning.   We were very much looking forward to Friday Harbor, but the ferry ride itself ended up being pretty fabulous too.Continue Reading

Forest Grove Views & Hillside Bible Church

Forest Grove Views & Hillside Bible Church

Until the age of 5 my family and I lived on my grandpa’s farm in Forest Grove. We lived up on a hillside near the Forest Grove and Gales Creek boundary. My grandpa was a filbert farmer, who owned a lovely piece of land with a view. The home we lived in was surrounded by filberts, and my grandparents home was below us through the orchard. When I wanted to visit my grandparents my mom would call my grandma to inform her that she was sending me down. Through the orchard I would run to the waiting arms of my grandma.Continue Reading

Best Western Agate Beach & Oregon Coast Aquarium

A friend of mine (who is also the mother of a friend of my son’s) invited us to join her and four of her kids on a one-night trip to the Oregon Coast during spring vacation.  I already had a really full week scheduled of me sleeping in, reading, maybe planting some seeds in my veggie garden if the rain ever stopped, and possibly culling through our mass accumulation of digital photos so I can upload my all time favorites to ShutterflyContinue Reading

Portland’s Ping Pong Social Club

Summertime church camp was an annual event in my junior high and high school life back in the ’80s.  The camp I went to every year had a ping pong table.  I fell in love.  I also fell in love with ping pong which was a good thing because the boys I fell in love with at camp didn’t end up panning out.Continue Reading

Disneyland Christmas – California Adventure Christmas Lights

Disneyland Christmas – California Adventure Christmas Lights

California Adventure Christmas Lights are such an amazing addition to an already beautiful Disneyland Christmas.  Boyd and I managed to be among the last people to get in line for the Radiator Springs Racers ride in Cars Land which put us in the perfect place to shut down the park and take photos of all the beautiful lights with nearly no one else around.  Both those factors made it really magical for us. Continue Reading

The day that we finally decided to go to the pumpkin patch, was also the same day that 20 mph winds were expected here in Oregon. This always happens to us. The Davis Graveyard is a Halloween Must Do

The Davis Graveyard is a Halloween Must Do

Last October Tammy was telling us about this amazing house that was totally decked out for Halloween.  She insisted that we just had to go and see the yard.  I was figuring it was somewhere in our neighborhood and was probably just filled with inflatables and misc spooky decor from Target.  I’m not a big fan of Halloween in general, and as it turned out this house was a good 40 minutes away.   I finally did agree to go so as to not be a total stick-in-the-mud.

It was amazing and TOTALLY WORTH THE DRIVE!Continue Reading
