A Little Snowflake Day

A Little Snowflake Day

This winter I designed a little snowflake and created some very simple Scandinavian style winter and Christmas signs.  It was super fun to learn how to make a snowflake using graphic design software.  I started out using scissors to create a design, but my paper snowflakes just didn’t cut it….. get it?  ….cut it? 🙂  OK – I’m sorry.  Continue Reading

Labor Day – The Day to Celebrate Work by Not Working

Labor Day – The Day to Celebrate Work by Not Working

What’s not to love about that.   Apparently Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday on February 21, 1887. Not surprising to me that even way back then Oregonians were finding a way to celebrate work by not working 🙂  Labor Day became a federal holiday in Continue Reading

Imperfect Easter Eggs

Imperfect Easter Eggs

I have been craving egg salad sandwiches, but I have not been eating them because I would have to stop and boil eggs which apparently is just too much to ask of myself.  Then the other night I was skipping through a magazine while trying to go to sleep and I saw this  really cool idea for putting a leaf impression on colored Easter eggs with natural dye. Wanting both egg salad and now also to color Easter eggs was finally enough to move these dual-desires up the priority list high enough to actually make them happen.  Plus that – what better way is there to expresses my thankfulness that Jesus Christ was resurrected from death to give us all eternal life than taking chicken eggs, boiling them, and coloring them pink & blue & green & purple?!

Apple Power Mac G5 Hack – New Life for Dead Tech

Apple Power Mac G5 Hack – New Life for Dead Tech

Part of our basement is a technology graveyard.  It’s where old computers and the like go to collect dust until a new fate is assigned.  Last week I was restless and decided that I would never use my retired Apple Power Mac G5 Tower…at least not as a computer.  My inspiration started out simple…”I’m gonna gut this thing.”Continue Reading

Valentine’s Day Grapevine Heart

Valentine’s Day Grapevine Heart

I finally stopped working long enough to do something creative…. not that bookkeeping isn’t creative.  Oh- yeah.  Bookkeeping isn’t creative – at least it better not be.  Bookkeeping did end up causing the inspiration for the project I did today though.  One of my bookkeeping clients is a really talented artist and graphic designer.  Last year around Valentine’s Day I went to do bookkeeping for her husband’s company and they had this amazing vine/twig heart hanging on their front door from a big ribbon.  I was impressed, charmed, & inspired.Continue Reading

Grape Juicing

Grape Juicing

There are so many grapes this year that I have to admit to being totally overwhelmed by them all.  My tendency is to take on whatever is in front of me which left me rather paralyzed in this situation.  I haven’t had time to even clean my house let alone juice a million grapes which I then would have no place to store.  It wasn’t until I finally realized I needed to give myself permission to just pick a couple bowls so we would have a few liters of Homemade Concord Grape Juice for the holidays that I started to look forward to the harvest.  Continue Reading

Lovely Natural Gift Wrap

Lovely Natural Gift Wrap

I used to get so tired of spending part of the money that I had set aside for a present, on gift wrap. My budget for extra things is usually pretty small, and when you have to figure gift wrap into that small amount the gift gets even smaller. So in a very cheap way I started to wrap my gifts with the extra brown paper bags that I had around the house.Continue Reading
