Western Riding Lessons

Western Riding Lessons

My girl loves, loves, loves horses!!! She researches anything and everything she can about them. Almost all her free time is spent doing research or watching YouTube videos of western riding.

Last fall I filmed her riding, but I would have to say that I am surprised at how much she has already improved since then. I love this little video though. I love capturing moments in time, so that you can really see the improvements, and remember the event.Continue Reading

Splittin’ Chicken

Splittin’ Chicken

I have mentioned that I buy many things in bulk for price and convenience sake.  In case you wanted to know what 40 pounds of chicken breasts look like before I stick them in my freezer, you’re in luck.  I buy hamburger, bacon, and occasionally other featured items from a company called Zaycon.  This is not a commercial for them – just telling it like it is.Continue Reading

The Bold, Beautiful Waves of the Oregon Coast

The Bold, Beautiful Waves of the Oregon Coast

What is it about an ocean beach that we’re drawn to?  There’s something about visiting the ocean shore that’s amazing, right?  The sound of seagulls and crashing waves, walking barefoot along the shoreline, breathing in the salty sea air, and of course we can’t leave until we get our picture with those big beautiful waves behind us.Continue Reading

My Chicken May

My Chicken May

May is one of my black and white chickens. She has yellow legs and feet, whereas Wilco has white legs and feet. May is pretty adventurous, she usually climbs to the top of everything. When I go outside she always runs to me for a nice visit.

Unfortunately, May seems to not be able to get totally clean when she takes a dust bath. She had some extra “things” hanging off her back feathers. I did some research on Pinterest and found that this is common, and you can give them a chicken bath if you need too.Continue Reading

Imperfect Easter Eggs

Imperfect Easter Eggs

I have been craving egg salad sandwiches, but I have not been eating them because I would have to stop and boil eggs which apparently is just too much to ask of myself.  Then the other night I was skipping through a magazine while trying to go to sleep and I saw this  really cool idea for putting a leaf impression on colored Easter eggs with natural dye. Wanting both egg salad and now also to color Easter eggs was finally enough to move these dual-desires up the priority list high enough to actually make them happen.  Plus that – what better way is there to expresses my thankfulness that Jesus Christ was resurrected from death to give us all eternal life than taking chicken eggs, boiling them, and coloring them pink & blue & green & purple?!

Coffee Crush

Coffee Crush

Back 1,000 years ago when I was a young woman of 21, I worked in a fancy Italian ristorante.  It had a deli with gelato and Italian imports.

My favorite was a little teeny bottle of espresso soda called Bibi Caffe.  It was spendy but I loved the sugary fizzy drink.  This was before I even drank coffee (obviously pre kids).Continue Reading

Best Western Agate Beach & Oregon Coast Aquarium

A friend of mine (who is also the mother of a friend of my son’s) invited us to join her and four of her kids on a one-night trip to the Oregon Coast during spring vacation.  I already had a really full week scheduled of me sleeping in, reading, maybe planting some seeds in my veggie garden if the rain ever stopped, and possibly culling through our mass accumulation of digital photos so I can upload my all time favorites to ShutterflyContinue Reading

Apple Power Mac G5 Hack – New Life for Dead Tech

Apple Power Mac G5 Hack – New Life for Dead Tech

Part of our basement is a technology graveyard.  It’s where old computers and the like go to collect dust until a new fate is assigned.  Last week I was restless and decided that I would never use my retired Apple Power Mac G5 Tower…at least not as a computer.  My inspiration started out simple…”I’m gonna gut this thing.”Continue Reading

Cyclamen – The Upside Down Flower

So I have had this lovely little Cyclamen houseplant since mid-December.  It was a gift from one of my bookkeeping clients and is a new plant for me.  It bloomed throughout December on my kitchen windowsill, but apparently I wasn’t really watching what this little plant was up to.

Do you ever buy those bags of lemons at Costco?

I do, and sometimes by the time I’ve gone through a few I’m not feeling so lemony anymore.  Most of the time I’ll juice the remaining lemons and put the juice in the freezer.  Occasionally, I’m too lazy to even be bothered.Continue Reading

Creamy Cajun Kale

Creamy Cajun Kale

Late last summer, I planted some kale in a planter box that I can see from my dining room sliding glass door.  I planted it, left it alone and just watched it grow.  The critters seemed to enjoy nibbling on it.  There were plenty of bug bites on the leaves and the squirrels ran around playing in it.  After a while, it became more of an experiment in overwintering kale.Continue Reading

Dat Butt

I’m trying a new to me method of cooking a 4 lb pork butt.  Pork butt, which is actually the shoulder (what??), is pretty affordable and hopefully I’ll get another meal out of it.  I must admit that I wouldn’t have bought this roast if I hadn’t scored a $10 off coupon making a $13 roast much more exciting to me.Continue Reading

Valentine’s Day Grapevine Heart

Valentine’s Day Grapevine Heart

I finally stopped working long enough to do something creative…. not that bookkeeping isn’t creative.  Oh- yeah.  Bookkeeping isn’t creative – at least it better not be.  Bookkeeping did end up causing the inspiration for the project I did today though.  One of my bookkeeping clients is a really talented artist and graphic designer.  Last year around Valentine’s Day I went to do bookkeeping for her husband’s company and they had this amazing vine/twig heart hanging on their front door from a big ribbon.  I was impressed, charmed, & inspired.Continue Reading

Portland’s Ping Pong Social Club

Summertime church camp was an annual event in my junior high and high school life back in the ’80s.  The camp I went to every year had a ping pong table.  I fell in love.  I also fell in love with ping pong which was a good thing because the boys I fell in love with at camp didn’t end up panning out.Continue Reading
